An investigation into the death of a 26-year-old who died while working on Everton Football Club’s new stadium has been launched by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
Construction worker Michael was killed on 14 August 2023 at Bramley-Moore Dock in Liverpool, where the Premier League club’s new ground is being built.
Following an investigation by Merseyside Police, which has now concluded, the regulator’s probe will aim to establish whether health and safety regulations were breached.
The coroner’s court heard the ventilation engineer had been operating a scissor ladder when he was caught between the equipment and the beam above. The PPE he had been wearing was damaged in the incident.
At the time of Michael’s death, the club released a statement. It said: ‘Everyone at Everton Football Club is heartbroken by the news a male worker has died following an incident at the Everton Stadium site at Bramley-Moore Dock.
‘The thoughts and condolences of everyone connected with Everton are with his family, friends, and colleagues at this unimaginably sad time.’
